artist’s blog (2015)
This is a series of interviews Alex conducted with artists in their studios. This blog began in 2015 during the mass evictions occurring in SF—when artist studios were being converted into office spaces. Many communities make up the Mission—many of these communities have been moved out—the goal of this blog is to give an intimate picture of one specific community—what does it mean when we say— “the artists have left the Mission!”
Studio 17 was an artist community that inhabited the fourth floor of 2111 Mission street—the corner of Mission & 17th. Through careful observation—Alex Nichols explains what the loss of an artist community in San Francisco is. The blog enters the individual artist spaces to show what the texture is for each artist.
